Laus Garnacha Tinta Barrica 2021

Laus Garnacha Tinta Barrica 2021: Laus’ commitment to Grenache single-varietal

At the top of the Sierra de la Candelera, in the municipality of Santa María de Dulcis (Huesca), is the Bachimaña estate where are planted 83 hectares of vineyards distributed in more than twenty terraces. With its 700 meters of altitude, it’s considered the highest vineyard west of Somontano. The first Grenache single-varietal produced by the Laus winery comes from this very particular terroir.

The Laus Garnacha Tinta Barrica 2021 grapes are harvested at night to maintain their freshness, and they ferment in stainless steel tanks at a temperature between 20 and 22 ºC to preserve the fruity aromas so characteristic of Grenache. The malolactic conversion also takes place in the tank, and after that the wine is aged in mixed barrels (American oak staves and French oak bottoms) for four months before being bottled.

Laus Garnacha Tinta is presented in the glass with a beautiful cherry color with a medium layer; It’s bolder than what we usually see in a Grenache wine. Its nose is varietal, sweet, with red fruit (strawberries) and violets in the foreground, accompanied by aromas of bakery and toast from the aging. On the palate it’s a fruity wine, with good acidity and tamed tannins, all in a tasty drink, with an aftertaste of burnt sugar.

It’s an easy and cheap wine with which Laus has decided to launch its own interpretation of a Somontano’s Grenache single-varietal wine.
