We like numbered bottles. Ours was 14,534 of 19,846. What will happen to 14,535? And what about the 14,533? Perhaps some of them have traveled to a remote country where they know nothing of Cariñena, of the poor sandy and stony loam soils where 30 years ago the Chardonnay vines with which this white wine aged for six months in American oak barrels were planted. Regardless of where the 14,535 bottle of Anayón Chardonnay 2018, it is likely that whoever enjoys it will stop a few seconds watching its slightly pale golden color, smelling its tropical fruits aromas (pineapple), some caramel, light smoky notes, dairy notes (butter) and even popcorn. Perhaps those who uncork the 14,533 bottle will notice in that palate of intense acidity (citrus), dairy hints (butter), a bit of bitterness and a final increasing acidity, in that long drink, in that fatty body, although never heavy.
Who knows where those bottles will be now. The only certainty we have is that the 14,534 bottle is no longer with us.
