Ubicada en el corazón de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai, en Vizcaya, Itsasmendi es una bodega que apuesta por mostrar la capacidad de guarda del txakoli y por diferenciar los diversos terruños donde crecen sus viñas. La bodega trabaja 35 hectáreas de viñedo repartidas en 15 parcelas, donde cultivan las diferentes variedades amparadas por la denominación de origen Bizkaiko Txakolina, siempre con la Hondarrabi Zuri y la Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratie como variedades principales. Con la idea de poner en valor y mostrar la singularidad de las parcelas que conforman el viñedo de Itsasmendi, nace la gama Paradisuak (paraíso, en euskera), a la que pertenece nuestro protagonista de hoy.
Leioa Paradisuak 2021 es un coupage de Hondarrabi Zuri y Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratie que nace en la parcela Peruri, en el municipio de Leioa (Vizcaya) a 46 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Es uno de los primeros viñedos de Itsasmendi en madurar; de hecho, las uvas se recogieron en la primera semana de vendimia. La fermentación de las uvas tiene lugar en huevos de hormigón de 1.700 litros, donde el vino también tiene una crianza de 15 meses sobre sus lías, que se encuentran en movimiento continuo y natural gracias a la forma de huevo de los mencionados depósitos.
Leioa Paradisuak 2021 se presenta en copa con un color amarillo pajizo con reflejos todavía verdosos, pese a tener ya cuatro años. En nariz manda la fruta de hueso, acompañada de cítricos, flores secas y notas herbales y anisadas. En boca destaca una muy buena acidez en un trago fresco y frutal, de buena intensidad y longitud, con un final ligeramente amargo. Es un vino directo, fácil y apetecible, un txakoli de calidad sin otra pretensión que mostrarnos a la perfección la filosofía de la bodega, reflejando la singularidad de un paisaje a través de una variedad autóctona y ofreciendo un gran potencial de guarda.

Leioa Paradisuak 2021: A single-vineyard txakoli to age in your cellar
Located in the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve in Biscay, Itsasmendi is a winery committed to showcasing the aging potential of txakoli and highlighting the diverse terroirs where its vines grow. The winery cultivates 35 hectares of vineyards spread across 15 plots, where they grow the different varieties authorized by the Bizkaiko Txakolina designation of origin, with Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratie as the main grapes. With the goal of valuing and showcasing the uniqueness of the individual plots that make up Itsasmendi’s vineyards, the Paradisuak range (meaning “paradise” in Basque) was born, to which today’s protagonist belongs.
Leioa Paradisuak 2021 is a blend of Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratie that comes from the Peruri plot, in the municipality of Leioa (Vizcaya), at 46 meters above sea level. It is one of the first vineyards in Itsasmendi to reach maturity; in fact, the grapes were harvested during the first week of the harvest season. Fermentation takes place in 1,700-liter concrete eggs, where the wine also undergoes 15 months of aging on its lees, which remain in continuous natural motion due to the shape of these vessels.
Leioa Paradisuak 2021 presents itself in the glass with a straw yellow color and still greenish reflections, despite already being four years old. On the nose, stone fruit dominates, accompanied by citrus, dried flowers, and herbal and aniseed notes. On the palate, it stands out for its excellent acidity, delivering a fresh and fruity sip with good intensity and length, finishing with a slight bitterness. This is a direct, easy-drinking, and appealing wine, a high-quality txakoli with no other ambition than to perfectly express the winery’s philosophy, reflect the uniqueness of a landscape through an indigenous variety, and offer remarkable aging potential.
