Por muy bien que creas que conoces una zona, siempre aparecen proyectos nuevos de los que no sabes nada hasta que un día se cruzan en tu camino. Muchas veces, como en este caso, ocurre gracias a buenos amigos del mundo del vino que te preguntan: “¿Conoces Viazález?”. Y tras tu negativa, tienes una botella de esta mencía, hasta ahora para ti desconocida, en tus manos.
Viazález es una pequeña bodega con cuatro hectáreas de viñedo propio dividido en tres viñas distintas, en tres zonas del Bierzo, y Viazález Mencía 2019 es un monovarietal de Mencía procedente de un viñedo plantado a 800 metros de altitud. La vendimia es manual, y el vino tiene una crianza de 12 meses en barricas bordelesas de roble francés.
Estamos ante un vino de rojo picota brillante. En nariz manda la fruta negra madura acompañada de toques herbales, especias, vainilla y notas torrefactas. En boca tiene una buena acidez, un tanino presente que acabará de domarse con un tiempo más en botella y un trago frutal, de longitud media,con un posgusto balsámico.
Es un vino de una bodega hasta ahora desconocida para nosotros porque, por muy bien que creas que conoces una zona, siempre aparecen proyectos nuevos y amigos dispuestos a ayudarte a descubrirlos.

No matter how well you think you know an area, new projects always appear that you know nothing about until one day they cross your path. Many times, as in this case, it happens thanks to good friends from the wine world who ask you: “Do you know Viazález?” And after your refusal, you have a bottle of this mencía in your hands.
Viazález is a small winery with four hectares of its own vineyard divided into three different plots, in three areas of Bierzo, and Viazález Mencía 2019 is a Mencía single-varietal from a vineyard planted at 800 meters of altitude. The harvest is manual, and the wine is aged for 12 months in Bordeaux French oak barrels.
This is a brilliant cherry red wine. Ripe black fruit dominates on the nose, accompanied by herbal touches, spices, vanilla and smoked notes. In the palate it has a good acidity, a present tannin that will finish taming with a longer time in the bottle and a fruity drink, of medium length, with a balsamic aftertaste.
It’s a wine from a winery unknown to us until now because, no matter how well you think you know an area, new projects and friends willing to help you to discover them always appear.
