Si te preguntaran cuál fue la primera denominación de origen de Francia, ¿qué contestarías? ¿Burdeos, con sus Grands Crus Classés 1855? ¿Quizás te has ido a Borgoña? ¿El Loira? ¿Puede que Alsacia? En cualquier caso, ¿estaba Arbois entre tus opciones? Pues precisamente esta denominación de origen, capital del Jurá, se considera la primera en obtener la clasificación AOC (equivalente a nuestras D. O.) en Francia el 15 de Mayo de 1936. Aunque, para ser justos, ese mismo día también obtuvieron la clasificación Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Tavel, Cassis y Monbazillac.
En la actualidad, Arbois tiene 812 hectáreas de viñedo que producen una media de 3 millones de litros de vino al año elaborados con las variedades Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau y Pinot Noir.
Domaine Rolet Arbois Trusseau 2019 es, como su nombre indica, un monovarietal de Merenzao (Trousseau, en francés) proveniente de los parajes Chagnon y Leuvrin, pertenecientes a Montigny-lès-Arsures y Montesserin, en el municipio de Arbois. Los viñedos están plantados sobre suelos de margas iridiscentes y arcillas, situados en laderas orientadas al oeste y al sur principalmente.
Tras una vendimia manual, las uvas son despalilladas y fermentan con levaduras autóctonas. El vino tiene una crianza de nueve meses en barricas de roble francés y en depósitos al 50 %.
Estamos ante un vino de color cereza de capa media baja. Su nariz es muy varietal, con fresas y violetas, y la madera muy bien integrada. En boca es fresco, fácil y amable, con una buena acidez en un trago frutal y mineral, con cierta estructura que hace que la botella se vacíe casi sin darte cuenta.

If someone asked you which was the first designated origin (AOC) in France, what would you answer? Bordeaux, with its Grands Crus Classés 1855? Maybe you thought of Burgundy? The Loire? Could it be Alsace? In any case, was Arbois among your options? Well, this particular designation of origin, located in the Jura region, is considered the first to obtain the AOC classification in France on May 15, 1936. Although, to be fair, on the same day, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Tavel, Cassis, and Monbazillac also obtained the same classification.
Currently, Arbois has 812 hectares of vineyards producing an average of 3 million liters of wine per year, made from grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir.
Domaine Rolet Arbois Trousseau 2019 is, as the name suggests, a single-varietal wine made from Trousseau (Merenzao in Spanish) sourced from the Chagnon and Leuvrin vineyards in Montigny-lès-Arsures and Montesserin, in the municipality of Arbois. The vineyards are planted on iridescent marl and clay soils, predominantly on west and south-facing slopes.
After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for nine months in French oak barrels and tanks, with a 50% split.
This wine has a medium-low cherry color. The nose is very varietal, with hints of strawberries and violets, and the oak is well-integrated. On the palate, it’s fresh, easy-going, and approachable, with good acidity. It offers a fruity and mineral sip with a certain structure that makes the bottle empty almost without you realizing it.
