Hay tanto que contar sobre este vino, que hoy vamos a intentar aprovechar el tiempo; a ver si lo logramos. Rippa Dorii es el nombre de un proyecto vitivinícola que agrupa en realidad dos bodegas con el río Duero como nexo, una en Rueda (Valladolid) y otra en Fuentecén (Burgos). El nombre viene dado por Sanctæ Mariæ de Ripa Dorii (Santa María de la Ribera del Duero), una iglesia en ruinas erigida en el siglo XIII y ubicada en el paraje donde se encuentra la finca de Torreduero, en la cual se cultivan 121 hectáreas de Verdejo injertado sobre cepas de Tempranillo de unos 30 años de edad que hunden sus raíces en suelos arenosos.
Detrás de este ambicioso proyecto se encuentra el grupo riojano Ontañón Familia, cuyos responsables han establecido dos gamas de vinos para Rippa Dorii. La primera de ellas cuenta con dos Verdejos (uno de ellos orgánico), encuadrados en la D. O. Rueda, así como dos Tempranillos (Roble y Crianza) amparados por la D. O. Ribera del Duero. En lo alto de la gama se sitúa la colección Geografías, compuesta por dos vinos parcelarios: Salomón (Tempranillo de Ribera del Duero) y Los Curas, el vino que hoy catamos y que nos sirve para presentar este proyecto.
Rippa Dorii Los Curas Geografías Verdejo 2020 es, así, un monovarietal de Verdejo procedente precisamente de la viña de Los Curas, en la que sus cepas crecen sobre un suelo pobre de arenas calizas recubierto de cantos rodados. Las uvas, de vendimia nocturna, maceran en frío durante más de 12 horas antes de pasar a la prensa. Tras un desfangado estático, el 80 % del mosto fermenta en depósitos de acero inoxidable, mientras el 20 % restante lo hace en barricas de roble francés. Tras seis meses de crianza, los vinos se ensamblan, y Los Curas termina de afinarse en la botella.
Sobre la cata, podéis imaginar que no se trata de un Verdejo al uso. Si bien esta primera añada no ha llegado aún a alcanzar el nivel de los vinos que Ontañón elabora en Queirón, su bodega de Rioja Oriental, es fácil percibir el esmero que los Pérez Cuevas han puesto en la elaboración de uno de los vinos que abandera el proyecto Rippa Dorii, que, por supuesto, prometemos conocer y desvelar in situ.

Rippa Dorii Los Curas Geografías Verdejo 2020: A parcel wine that champions the Castilian derivative of Ontañón
There’s so much to tell about this wine, so today we’re going to seize the time. Rippa Dorii is the name of a wine project that actually brings together two wineries with the Duero River as a link, one in Rueda (Valladolid) and another in Fuentecén (Burgos). The name comes from Sanctæ Mariæ de Ripa Dorii (Santa María de la Ribera del Duero), a church in ruins erected in the 13th century and located in the area where the Torreduero estate is located, where 121 hectares of Verdejo are farmed, a Verdejo grafted on 30 years old Tempranillo vines that sink their roots in sandy soils.
Behind this ambitious project is the Riojan group Ontañón Familia, whose managers have established two ranges of wines for Rippa Dorii. The first of them has two Verdejos (one of them organic), framed in the D. O. Rueda, as well as two Tempranillos (Roble and Crianza) protected by the D. O. Ribera del Duero. At the top of the range is the Geografías collection, made up of two individual wines: Salomón (Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero) and Los Curas, the wine that we are tasting today and help us to show this project.
Rippa Dorii Los Curas Geografías Verdejo 2020 is a Verdejo single-varietal from Los Curas vineyard, where its vines grow on poor limestone soil covered with boulders. The grapes, nightly harvested, are cold macerated for more than 12 hours before pressed. After a static settling, 80% of the must ferments in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining 20% does so in French oak barrels. After six months of aging, the wines are blended, and Los Curas finishes refining in the bottle.
About the tasting, you can imagine that it isn’t a typical Verdejo. Although this first vintage has not yet reached the level of the wines that Ontañón makes in Queirón, his Rioja Oriental winery, it’s easy to perceive the care that the Pérez Cuevas have put into making one of the wines that champions the Rippa Dorii project, which, of course, we promise to discover and reveal in situ.
